About Us

I have always thought my mom and dad were great cooks, but because of their busy schedule, they could only show me the basics. As I got older and married into a family with a whole different culinary culture, I did my best to learn the art of Newfoundland cuisine. Trying to live up to my mother-in-law's cooking wasn't easy, but I think I managed to learn most of the important Newfoundland recipes.  This experience boosted my love of cooking and I started putting a lot of effort in everything I made. So when people ask for a recipe, I consider it an honor.

Lauri's Kitchen is a collection of recipes I use, as well as recipes from family and friends. I have personally used all of the recipes on this site, and can tell you they are delicious. Even if you aren't diabetic or gluten intolerant, be sure to check out all the recipes. I have dedicated a lot of time trying to find good recipes and ways to make great tasting diabetic and gluten free food.

I have done a bit of research on healthy substitutes that can be used for diabetics, and have found some great ones. Below are some of the healthy substitutes I use and links to health benefit information.

The only down side to these substitutions is the cost. You can buy them from your local health food store, but be prepared to pay quite a bit for them. The best place to get these items is online at the links below. They are more affordable if can buy enough to qualify for free shipping.

Keep coming back, because I am always adding new recipes.
